Our Very Merry Christmas

January 3rd, 2006

I am sorry that it has taken so long to write this post, but we have all been extremely busy the last week or so with my sisters in town and with New Years just this past weekend. I’ll try to fill you all in on how things have been going around here!

On Christmas Eve my parents and sisters came over for the traditional chalupa, which we make every year on this day. After dinner, we each opened a present, which is another tradition, and then played a new game that the girls had learned in college. After that, my parents and sisters left, and we got to be early. The next morning we woke up early to attend the early service at church. Afterwards we went over to my parents’ for hot cocoa, sticky rolls and opening their presents. After that, the girls returned home with us and helped me get Christmas dinner ready. Thankfully, we had done all the preparations the day before, so all we had to do was heat things up and cook the ham. Dad brought over a ton of appetizers, and by the time the food was ready, we weren’t sure how we’d fit any more food in! Somehow we managed to gobble down Christmas dinner, and afterwards Patrick opened up some more of his presents, and we spent time as a family doing the traditional Christmas things.

Patrick had by far the most presents this year. He is quite spoiled between his grandparents, his aunties, his great aunties, and esp. even a little by his parents. His favorite presents were a big tub of Legos from Daddy, a Texas football (and matching teeshirt!) from the Chambers, a Fisher Price Incrediblock from Auntie Diane, a Drop and Roll Dinosaur from Auntie Rachel, Fridge Farm Magnets from Gramma and Granpa Flanagan, and hand puppets from the Pierces.

Andrew and I also got some neat presents! Thanks to both sets of parents, we now have two dates set. The first will be on Wednesday night, when we will leave Patrick with my sisters and take advantage of our TGIFriday’s gift card from Andrew’s parents, and then go see The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. Then, in March, thanks to my parents, we will be going up to Seattle to see an opera, “Cosi fan Tutti” by Mozart, while they watch Patrick for us. Jon, my brother, sent us monetary bills from countries all throughout the Middle East, such as Egypt, Iraq, and Afghanistan. We are sorry that he was not able to spend Christmas with us, and we missed him dearly. Andrew got me some really unique candles that change colors when you light them, and they’re very mesmerizing. I got Andrew a nice humidor so he can have a place to put cigars, if he ever gets anything, and my parents got us a very nice video iPod. We were very blessed this Christmas, but we were the most grateful for having family around us as we celebrated life through the birth and death of Christ. We hope that everyone had a very merry Christmas!
